READING from The Book of Lyb
God himself reveals his strength and majesty in the admirable things of the created world.
The Lord replied to Job from the greatness: “Have you been commanded in the morning, since you have lived, and have you appointed the place of the dawn shed, that he may grasp the edges of the earth as a carpet, and shake off all the night villains; that from the morning the earth shall be as reddish clay shines under the seal, and to take on colors, as the dress; to take their ‘light’ from the wicked and break the power of their arms raised to sin?
Have you ever been to the depths of the sea, have you ever been to the depths of the ocean?
Have the gates of death opened up to you, and have you seen the entrance to the underworld?
Have you looked at the earth in its true scope?
Explain all this to me if you can.
Which path will take you to where the light lives, and where the darkness lives, so that you can accompany them to their home and lead them home to their house?

Therefore, Tyrus and Sidon will have a more tolerable fate in judgment than you.
What about you, Kafarnaum? Will it rise to the sky? You’re going to sink all the way to the underworld.”
He continued, “He who listens to you listens to me; and he who despises you despises me. And he who despises me despises the one who sent me.”

The Old Life and the New

¹⁷ Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds. ¹⁸ They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. ¹⁹ They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. ²⁰ That is not the way you learned Christ! ²¹ For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus. ²² You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, ²³ and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴ and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Rules for the New Life

²⁵ So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another.

Jesus Teaches and Heals

¹⁷ He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. ¹⁸ They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. ¹⁹ And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.
